Homemade spice mixes

Published January 12, 2013 by z24racerchic

I have been looking to go back to using more spice mixes without the weird things that companies that can put in them to not make them stick together, etc. The funny thing is if I haven’t used a spice mix that I got in the store for a while it does get all stuck together. However, a taco seasoning recipe I got off of a website I made a couple months ago, put in a jelly jar labeled it and it is still not sticking together and has an awesome flavor.

I did some research online today looking up different recipes I want to try. I will make up batches of these when I get the jars and label them and add to my collection. Here are the recipes I found.

2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder

1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon white pepper

5 tablespoons paprika
3 tablespoons salt

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano

Ranch mix

1/4 cup dry buttermilk powder
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
2 tablespoons dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried chives
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried celery flakes
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon dried dill weed

Directions:1.Mix the buttermilk powder, dried onion, parsley, chives, salt, garlic powder, dried celery flakes, white pepper, paprika, and dill together, and store in a cool, dry place. For a finer texture, place ingredients in a blender and pulse several times.

To prepare the mix as salad dressing, whisk together in a mixing bowl with 2 cups of mayonnaise and 2 cups of milk until smooth.
